In Africa, the poverty rate is very high and cannot be over emphasized. This affects especially women in that they face challenges of unemployment, inadequate support in entrepreneurial activities, poor political representation, deprivation of productive rights and limited access to education.
The result is the experience of hardship, especially single mothers who do not have support from men whether irresponsible husbands or otherwise. This jeopardizes their lives, if not trained in the Word, and the well being of their children.
According to record, 80% of African women in the low income bracket are the sole bread winners for their families through trading, farming and small businesses. Mega cities with rising costs of living further propel female bread winning in low income brackets precisely because of today’s challenges many face on a regular basis.
To help women in Africa, Apostle Maria, under the guidance of the Lord, established a special program called Dorcas Vocational Training Program in Nigeria as a test pilot with intentions of taking it to Uganda and Kenya. Through the Dorcas Vocational Training Program, women have been trained to professionally make clothing and thereby have become professional seamstresses. Learning this skillset has indeed positioned them to earn a living for their families.
As a part of our service, we:
Provide free housing for families.
Provide assistance with applications for business licenses and provide cost for fees.
Provide assistance with opening bank accounts; and,
Give small gifts for start up.
We are very pleased to announce that the first set of these women in Nigeria have completed their training and are now professionals. Since their graduation, we have begun the process of registering their company names with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria and are preparing to assist them with the opening of bank accounts for their businesses.
Upon the completion of our pilot program in Nigeria, we intend to open the door for all women in HIM chapters across Africa to enroll.
